Moving to Wokingham for your job? Let us help you decide where to live.
Most commuter towns give you one journey. Wokingham gives you a choice of them, and that choice is the reason people who move here for one job are still here for the next one.
Why the commute works from here
Wokingham station sits on two lines. One runs to London Waterloo in one direction and Reading in the other. The second runs south towards Guildford and Gatwick. Reading is nine or ten minutes away on the fast service, and from there the Elizabeth line carries you through central London without another change.
By road, the A329(M) a few minutes north of the town reaches the M4 at Junction 10 one way and Bracknell the other, with Heathrow around forty minutes away and the M3 within reach to the south.
That is the real advantage of living here. Waterloo direct. Central London through Reading, which is usually the quicker run into town. Reading itself in under ten minutes. Gatwick to the south, and the motorway network a few minutes away. Whatever the job asks of you, there is a route to it from Wokingham, and that choice is a large part of why homes here hold their value.
Where you live comes down to how you travel. Here are the best areas for each.
If you take the train
-
Wokingham town centre. The station is a few minutes on foot, with trains to Waterloo twice an hour through Bracknell, Ascot and Staines, in around an hour and a quarter. Newer townhouses and apartments, and everything else within walking distance.
-
Woosehill. West of the centre and the estate families name first. Three and four-bedroom houses with gardens and parking off the road, two primary schools inside the estate, a supermarket and a surgery without leaving it, and a walk to the station of fifteen minutes from the eastern side.
-
Emmbrook. North of the centre and reads as a village while being minutes from town. A secondary school on the doorstep and a couple of proper pubs.
-
Winnersh. Two stations of its own, Winnersh and Winnersh Triangle, both on the Reading to Waterloo line. Below the town on price, keeps its village feel, and has Dinton Pastures for the weekends. If you work in Reading, one of the most practical addresses in Berkshire.
-
Earley. Nearer Reading again, with its own station and a wide range of family housing. Suits people working in Reading who want a Wokingham borough address.
-
Twyford. The one for London. Great Western trains reach Paddington in around half an hour, and Twyford is on the Elizabeth line as well, running through Bond Street, Farringdon and Liverpool Street to Canary Wharf without a change. All from a village that has kept its own high street.
If you drive
-
Finchampstead. Village life, with California Country Park at the door and easy road links towards Camberley, Farnborough and the M3, all within about ten miles.
-
Arborfield Green. New schools and road links already in place, a district centre taking shape, and modern homes priced below the established parts of Wokingham.
-
Shinfield. Grown considerably in recent years and oriented towards Reading, with a new primary school and the eastern relief road already delivered. Good value for a first home built around a car commute.
What a good commute is worth when you sell
A buyer knows where they need to be in the morning and the commute they want to get there. When a home answers both, they stop searching.
Which is where owning in Wokingham pays. A house here does not answer one buyer’s commute. It answers several, which means it is never competing for one narrow slice of the market. The more options your home offers, the more buyers it suits, and the more buyers it suits the stronger the final figure.
The walk to the station you stopped noticing years ago is the exact thing somebody is searching for tonight. Your commute is one of the strongest features your home has. It deserves to be sold like one.
Know Wokingham before you move
Sears has been selling and letting homes across Wokingham for several years. We know what buyers will pay for a good commute.
If you own here, we will tell you what your home is worth today and which buyers are looking for exactly what it offers.
The same is true if you let one. A good commute is what finds you the tenant who renews rather than the one who moves on after a year, and a settled tenancy is worth as much to a landlord as the rent itself.
